Shasta Cascade Hazardous Materials Response Team (SCHMRT)

The Shasta Cascade Hazardous Materials Response Team (SCHMRT) is administered by the Shasta County Fire Department. SCHMRT is a regional resource covering Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Tehama, Trinity and SiskiyouCounties. In July 2011, the Program Manager duties were transfer from Division Chief Mike Hebrard to Battalion Chief Andy Reiling. The Operations Director is Redding Fire Department Deputy Chief Gerry Gray. The team has 60 members from 12 different agencies.

SCHMRT was activated for 18 incidents. 16 incidents were Level I requiring minimal staffing to mitigate the circumstances. 2 incidents were Level II requiring all available members to respond.

On December 7th 2011 a team typing audit was performed by representatives from California Emergency Management (CAL EMA). There were a couple of items that needed to be addressed. Those items have been addressed and it is anticipated that the final piece of equipment to meet the typing standards will arrive in the beginning of 2012.

Tasks in 2012 are the updating of the Letter of Understanding between the members and updating the Administration Manual.
